James Pacifici and the Qualifying Cross Country
Top Flight Helicopters would like to congratulate James Pacifici on completing his Qualifying Cross Country flight. James flew from Cranfield to Conington then onto Coventry before flying back to Cranfield. The flight was over 100 nautical miles long and goes towards qualifying for his private pilot’s licence.
When a flying instructor is confident in a student pilots flying capabilities, and that the student has made a number of local solo flights, they will then send the student pilot on a qualifying cross country solo flight. In preparation for the qualifying cross country the student and their instructor will fly the route, that will later be flown by the student solo.
A student pilot must complete 10 hours of supervised solo flight time, including at least 5 hours of solo cross country flight time. The student also needs to fly 1 cross country flight of at least 100 NM that includes 2 full stop landings at an aerodrome different from the departure aerodrome.
Upon landing at each aerodrome James would shut the aircraft down and report to the Air Traffic Control tower where they sign a certificate on arrival.
Once again, well done James!
Christian Coker – First Solo
Huge congratulations to Christian Coker on completing his FIRST solo flight today (23/08/2016). Christian took off from Cranfield Airport this morning with his instructor and after a few circuits he was deemed ready to fly the Schweizer 300 solo. Every pilot remembers the day they went solo and now Christian is another step closer to gaining his PPL(H). Well done!
Christian said it was a huge thrill to pilot the Schweizer solo and can’t wait to progress with the rest of his flight training.
