In the world of airborne machinery, it doesn’t get much more impressive than helicopter stunts. Being a notoriously difficult vehicle to manoeuvre and quite terrifying when you think about it, helicopter stunts are a feat to behold! We thought we’d give you a little taste of the spectacle with our rundown of our Top Flight Helicopter charter’s five top helicopter stunts, taken from a mixture of films and stunt shows.
In this helicopter stunt performance staged by RedBull, Felix Baumgartner flies the helicopter that comes head to head with a Toyota GT 86 1000HP, following the car incredible closely and tracking its movements. The helicopter then performs a mid-air drift as the car mirrors from the ground, circling a grounded plane. Impressed? Check out the video to see it for yourself.
The Impossible Challenge
Helicopters aren’t meant to fly upside down. That’s just a fact. But for Chuck Aaron, a helicopter stunt professional, things like ‘facts’ don’t stop him. He took a helicopter, modified it so that all the life-threatening things that could’ve happened hopefully didn’t, and proceeded to fly his helicopter upside down. As a helicopter charter company, we can’t even begin to explain how impressive (and terrifying) this is!
Spectre Helicopter Stunts
In the 2015 James Bond film, Spectre, fans were treated to a bit more of Chuck Aarons jaw-dropping helicopter stunts. His work in the film could easily be mistaken for CGI as it is that impressive but, in fact, it was all real and filmed as we see it, as the film’s team will tell you. In particular, his 360-degree corkscrew stunt captured the attention of viewers for its impossibility – for those of us who know Aaron, though, we’ll know impossible just isn’t a word he knows.
Backflips in the Sky
Doing a backflip on the ground is pretty impressive, let alone 1000 feet in the air and in a helicopter! This stunt involves skill, technical knowledge and a whole lot of courage. There’s quite a few videos online of these stunts being performed, but you can rest assured we won’t be doing any if you get a helicopter charter with us.
Taking Risks in True Lies
Although this isn’t technically a helicopter stunt, we thought we’d throw it in because we’re still pretty impressed at our helicopter charter. Points just for bravery on this one! In the 1994 film True Lies, Jamie Lee Curtis is shot dangling out of a helicopter as it flies. CGI? No! She actually did this herself, on her birthday of all days! The risk level here definitely puts it on our list, even if the helicopter itself wasn’t really involved.
We’re pretty sure we won’t be trying any of these soon at our helicopter charter company – we’ll stick to watching the experts. We don’t think our clients would be too happy if we started flying upside down!
If you’re on the hunt for a top helicopter charter – that won’t have you dangling out the door – get in touch with us at Top Flight Helicopters today!
