Private Pilots Licence
The Private Pilot Licence for Helicopters, or PPL(H), entitles you to fly a helicopter for pleasure and is the first step towards a gaining a commercial licence. Pilot training with Top Flight Helicopters is conducted by Cranfield Flying School. In order to gain your European PPL(H) Licence you will need to complete a minimum of 45 hours’ flight instruction, at least 10 of which must be pilot-in-command, meaning you will be flying the aircraft solo. You will also need to pass a number of written examinations which Top Flight Helicopters will guide you through, the flight training Ground School subjects can be learned either self-studying in your own time or by one-to-one instruction.
If you want to fly helicopters as a career and earn money doing so, you must hold a Commercial Pilot Licence (H). In order to commence the Commercial Pilot Training course, you must have logged 155 hours of helicopter flying time which includes your Private Pilot Licence (H) training and any additional helicopter flying you have done since. This period is known as ‘hour building’ and generally runs hand in hand with the next stage of flight training ground examinations.Commercial Pilot Licence
Type Rating Training
Each helicopter requires pilot training before being added to your licence. A Type Rating course consists of a period of theoretical and flight training plus a test. Our courses require a minimum of five hours flight training for a single engine rating. Our team of highly experienced instructors and in-house examiners provide outstanding helicopter flight training that’s required to complete your Type Rating.
